A fragment of an old recording of Radio Moscow. Until 1993, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics broadcast radio programs worldwide in as many as 70 languages. I am old enough to remember lying in bed as a young boy, listening to longwave stations on a transistor radio and occasionally stumbling upon these broadcasts. They featured Solemn, Weighty Political pronouncements; I was too young to understand them, but I realized they were coming from far away—from behind the Iron Curtain. (More info: wikipedia)
